And you can get a piece of it with Activision’s Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventures. Available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS. The concept behind this multiplatform game is that creatures called Skylanders have been cast from their realm into ours, shrinking and transforming into tiny little statues. To bring them back to life and save their world the player must place them on a ‘Portal of Power’ that will revive them and send them back to their realm.
Each game comes boxed with 3 Skylanders (one of them being Spyro the dragon), a Portal of Power, stickers, stat cards, a poster, and codes to use to play games on the Skylander’s website. The Portal hooks up to your gaming system with a USB cable and by placing the Skylander figure on the portal they are transferred into the game world. The player can then add to their collection by buy individual characters in the form of 3″ figures to add to the game and placing them on the portal. There are a total of 32 different Skylanders, grouped into eight different elemental powers, and if you want to enjoy everything the game has to offer you will want to get at least one character from each element.
The game will save each characters information (stats, attacks, equipment) to the actual figure, and the user can bring them to their friends house and use them in their game. The great thing about that is it does not matter if your friend has the same platform as you, the figures can be used with any of the other systems with no problem.
You can also hook up the Portal to your computer, and bring your Skylander to life on their website. You will get your own island, and can play mini-games and level up your Skylander. You are than able to transfer that information onto the figure and back into your game on your console. The online game is reminiscent of Pokemon Black and White’s Dream World, but with a lot more to do and no pesky time limit.
The game is well done, and a lot of fun to play. The user will have their own central hub that grow as the game progresses, where they can buy upgrades for their attacks, do challenge missions and more. Each Skylander has their own set off attacks and personality and it’s easy to find your favorites. You can also rename them, making them feel even more unique.
This is a great game for kids, and adults. And while it may seem pricey, like I said before you don’t have to buy every figure. You can stick with the three that came with your game, trade with friends, or just find a couple that you like. Amazon has a great deal right now, with most characters on sale for $4.99 and free shipping if you spend over $25.Still not sure? then check out the Skylanders Official Website for more information.
