I’ve heard a lot of hype surrounding this series for the past two years so I finally dug into my wallet and bought the first three graphic novels. Believe the hype, this series is awesome.
Gail Simone has got to be one of the most talented writers out there right now. She takes a cast of nobodies and losers and weaves them into one hell of an amazing team. Never in my life would I have thought that I would actually enjoy Bane as a character, but Gail Simone writes him in such away that I’ve actually grown to like him. He’s not the only one she works her magic on, the whole cast is amazing and they all slowly grow on you.
She creates a team that walks that very thin line between hero and villain, which makes them more human and easy to relate to . There is no black and white here, and at any minute one of them might turn on the other as they handle the missions they accept. Part of the fun is seeing how they’ll react to the morally ambiguous situations they wind up in and if everyone will survive it.
This series captures everything a good comic should be and should be on everyone’s must read list. I could go on for hours about this series but I think the best way to truly understand how great this comic series is, is by picking up the graphic novels and reading it for yourself.
