This is a great time for RPG lovers who own a DS. With Dragon Quest VI released last week, Pokemon Black and White out in a few weeks and Radiant Historia out today things have never been better. Radiant Historia is on my must own list.
This game follows the adventures of Stocke as he travels through time meddling in history to find the one and only future that doesn’t end badly. Early in the game Stocke comes across the White Chronicle, a book that allows him to move freely through time and keeps track of all the multiple realities that you create and can visit. This becomes important as some time lines will become dead ends, but by visiting others you might gain the necessary skills or objects that allow you to change the outcome of that dead end.
Enemies are displayed on the world map and by touching them you go into battle. If you manage to pull of a Strike attack on the enemy while on the world map, you gain the advantage to attack first in battle. Battle in Radiant Historia makes use of both screens: the bottom screen displays enemies, your team and commands (with the top screen showing the order of attackers). Enemies are placed on a 3×3 grid. The key to victory lies in how you manipulate the enemy withing that grid. You can knock enemies into each other allowing you to attack them in a single space.
The character designs for this game are fresh and not your cookie cutter JRPG cast (androgynous lead with huge sword). Hiroshi Konishi has done a great job in creating a unique and memorable cast. He’s easily becoming one of my top video game artist.
If you are looking for another highly addictive role playing game to complement your Dragon Quest experience or something to hold you over till the release of Pokemon I highly recommend getting this game. Visit the official Radiant Historia website by clicking here.
